Growing up with immigrant parents I never shared the same vision of normalcy that kids at school had. For that reason I didn’t feel compelled as a child to conform to the same standard of what or who to be. I always felt more comfortable doing my own thing my own way, however, this naturally led to some ridicule from my peers. I suppose my parents thought if I was strong enough to follow my own voice I’d be strong enough to stand tall when it came time to face theirs. Instead, I retreated to within myself becoming very soft spoken and shy. And of course life never gives us an easy time so like a snow ball effect people build more and more walls throughout their life to protect themselves sometimes to a debilitating point. And now as I get older, a young girl trying to find my place in the world I know I cannot go on with these walls which keep me from taking risks. I am apart of this project because I hope that through this experience I can embolden myself and others to transcend their biggest fears to accomplish those dreams which we only had the heart to dream in our youth. The dreams that tell you you can be anyone you want to, the ones that make you believe that you can be an influence and change peoples lives for the better. Some people think children are born with the answers to the universe which slowly flutter away before they can find the ability to communicate it to the rest of the world. But I just think they have courage and an undeniable unending faith that everything will turn out how it should if you just try. I want to find that faith again.
